Football Snack Food

Inspired by Oktoberfest!!!

Sorry for the delay in getting another blog out here! I've spent the past couple months planning and packing for my european vacation. I must say, it was well worth the wait...and it definitely inspired my next blog.

My husband and I (thanks to our friends Doro and Fabian) were able to attend Oktoberfest in Munich this year. We even dressed the part (as you can see above). It was completely amazing. As we sit at home back in Cleveland reflecting on the trip of a lifetime, one of the things we simply can't forget (besides the delicious beer, our awesome friends, and the german drinking songs) were the german pretzels!!

As football season begins and my focus shifts to tailgating treats, I can't help but think what a prefect snack these would be...so, naturally, I tried to find a recipe to make at home. I must say, the Soft Pretzel recipe I found did turn out quite good. I can't say they are worthy of Oktoberfest, but they do fulfill the craving in the meantime...and they are definitely better than the ones we can find around here.

These are a little tricky to make, and I usually end up with quite a mess in my kitchen afterwards. But I must say that they are very worth it! If they don't turn out the first time, don't give up. You learn little tricks as you go. The first time I made them, the pretzels turned out soft and good, but the bottoms burned onto the pans. Some things I've learned along the way: be sure to let the dough rise long enough, and definitely go out of your way to line the pans with a non-stick surface. Other than that, they should be a breeze!

While delicious alone, I like to make them with a few dipping sauces. My favorites are Queso Dip and Honey Mustard. Perfection!

Happy tailgating with these! And drink responsibly :). These will definitely help you on your way!!!
